Although he looks organized on the outside and tolerant, which is partly why other animals are attracted to him, he can be somewhat untidy at home so that his house resembles a pig-sty! This is a turn-off for others. He is usually more a 'sex' animal than a romantic, so he has to sharpen his 'romance' skills to find love. More passion but go easy on the action, Mr. Pig! Four men were arrested inside a gay sauna in April 2005 and in 2001 two men were charged with "riotous, disorderly or indecent behavior in any public road or in any public place or place of public amusement or resort". Singapore's first public GLBT pride festival, Indignation, took place during the month of Aug in 2005. The arts, especially theater, have been openly exploring the subject of homosexuality since the 1990s. Police harassment and entrapment of gays has nearly vanished following Lee Kuan Yew's unexpected 1998 CNN statement that "what we are doing as a government is to leave people to live their own lives so long as they don't impinge on other people. There is also a Filipino TV show, called '1for3', which features a gay male couple. I was pleasantly surprised to see how straight Filipino men interact with gay co-workers. The straight guys teased the gays about their sexual orientation, but in a nice way that also revealed how much they valued their friendship. My Filipino boyfriend from Boracay Island also advised me that the Catholic Church's stance on homosexuality is rarely emphasized and that many gay Filipinos are active and integrated Catholics." |
